Process Systems Engineering for Net Zero Carbon Emissions, 10 December 2025, 09:00-17:30

Process Systems Engineering for Net Zero Carbon Emissions, 10 December 2025, 09:00-17:30

The HyPER project will deliver a 1 MWth hydrogen production pilot plant at Cranfield University to test an innovative hydrogen production technology that substantially reduces greenhouse gas emissions

Are you a process, energy, chemical, or mechanical engineer working toward decarbonisation? An industrial professional aiming to upskill in process and systems engineering? Or a postdoctoral or early career researcher advancing net zero research?

The PSE-4-NZ short course is designed with you in mind.

C-DICE are fully funding ten places for C-DICE affiliated postdoctoral researchers, each worth £1500.

All funded places for this training have now been allocated. If you wish to self-fund, you can book directly through Process system engineering | Cranfield University Online Store.

This short course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of process systems engineering, including the management of complex engineered sequences. With a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change, the course explores the latest developments in decarbonising energy production and industrial processes. As a discipline central to many industries, process engineering plays a critical role in achieving global decarbonisation targets. You’ll gain the knowledge and tools needed to contribute effectively to this urgent challenge.

What you will learn

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify and apply core concepts of process systems engineering to real-world challenges.
  • Collect, interpret, and analyse data using systems engineering methods.
  • Evaluate and select tools for designing and operating efficient, low-carbon process systems.
  • Understand how net zero goals impact the design and operation of process plants.

Core content includes

  • Fundamentals of process plant and systems engineering
  • Instrumentation and control for renewable energy applications
  • Numerical tools for industrial process design and operation
  • Inspection and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) for risk and reliability
  • Net zero process engineering strategies
  • Process safety and risk assessment in design
  • Interactive seminars on cutting-edge developments in net zero engineering

Who should attend

  • Process, energy, chemical, and mechanical engineers focused on decarbonisation
  • Industrial professionals seeking to upskill in process and systems engineering
  • Postdoctoral researchers and early career researchers working in net zero research fields

How to apply

All funded places for this training have now been allocated. If you wish to self-fund, you can book directly through Process system engineering | Cranfield University Online Store.

Caring Support Fund

If you are accepted onto the training but have caring responsibilities that may present a barrier to participation, you may be eligible to apply for the C-DICE Caring Support Fund.

This fund is designed to support postdoctoral researchers by helping to offset any additional caring-related costs incurred as a result of attending a C-DICE activity.

More details, including how to apply, can be found here.

 Travel Fund

C-DICE has established a dedicated fund to support postdoctoral researchers in attending face-to-face C-DICE events, particularly where personal funding may be a barrier. Eligible attendees can apply for a travel grant of up to £150 to help cover travel expenses. This training qualifies for the C-DICE travel grant. Please note:

  • You will be responsible for booking your own travel.
  • Reimbursement will be processed via an expense claim submitted after the event.
  • Once your place has been confirmed, further details about the travel grant and how to apply can be found here.
